The story of Anna in the jungle
MY NAME IS ANNA RATNAYAKE AND FATE BROUGHT ME TO SRI LANKA
It all started before graduation, when I came across an agency that helped students get to universities in Great Britain by chance. I thought it was a good idea and I actually traveled to England 3 months after graduation. I completed my bachelor's degree at the university tooth and nail, and in the summer of 2019 I received a Bachelor of science diploma, majoring in Physical activity, Nutrition and Health.
THREE YEARS IN ENGLAND WERE RATHER A (BRUTAL) SCHOOL OF LIFE FOR ME. I HAVE NOT NEEDED A COLLEGE DIPLOMA IN MY LIFE SINCE IT WAS TAKEN OVER.
Between sophomore and third year, I didn't know what to do with myself. At the same time, it became clear to me that I really did not want to make a living from what I was studying. I don't think I'd even be able to earn dry bread with that. (Remembering all those essays and scientific studies makes me a little sick to this day.) That is exactly why in the summer of 2018, like a typical millennial before the coronavirus, I took a backpack on my back and bought the cheapest plane ticket to Asia (the most super feature on www. skyscanner.com) and ended up in Sri Lanka for a month.
Since I didn't want to spend a lot of money, I found volunteering through the website www.workaway.info For a few hours of helping with anything, you get free food and accommodation. I originally thought my host was a Sri Lankan, slightly stocky, middle-aged and with a long beard. (Actually, when I first emailed him, I thought Ishanka was a female name.) He turned out to be a likable thirtysomething with a nice figure. Basically, the only thing that matched the original ideas was the beard. Complete kinder surprise.
YES, THIS CUTE MUSTACHE HAS TURNED MY LIFE UPSIDE. I MOVED WITH HIM TO SRI LANKA IN 2019 AND EVEN MARRIED HUSBAND A YEAR AFTER THAT.
